In October 2016, I was given the opportunity to teach a 3-day workshop at the Rappahannock Art League. My goal was to demonstrate to them how to work on colored ground with rapidly drying acrylic paint. I set up three different still life scenes for the class to choose to work from. My students were mostly experienced painters and they completed 4 or 5 paintings during the workshop. I was thrilled with their hard work. On the third day they spent the morning painting the still life inspired by the actual colors of the objects. In the afternoon, they painted the same composition working instead in the fauve style using arbitrary, expressive colors.
