Silver Raven Studios now has an art gallery in the expanded gift shop space at the Horn Harbor Restaurant in Burgess, Virginia. The gallery will feature artwork by Brenda Sylvia and other local artists. Horn Harbor Restaurant has been located on a beautiful spot along the shoreline of the Great Wicomico river since 1973. The property was purchased by the Hester family in 2018. Last year, owner and manager Danny Hester offered Brenda a dedicated space to exhibit her artwork. Brenda is a full-time professional Artist who is represented by the Crossroads Art Center in Richmond and the Mango Tango Gallery in the US Virgin Islands. She has MFA in painting from The George Washington University and a degree in Fine Art from James Madison University.
Brenda also worked as a part-time bartender at Horn Harbor and has created Halloween Haunts there to have a break from her solo studio time. On Sunday, March 9th from 2 to 4 PM, Brenda will host an art reception at the gallery. This will be the first of a series of “Second Sunday” receptions held at the same time each month. The restaurant and bar will be open for business during the receptions.
Beginning in April, Brenda will share the gallery with a different local artist each month. April will feature Heathsville oil painter Cate Kaufman (with a reception on 4/13). May’s artist will be watercolorist Carol Vaughn (reception 5/11). In June, artist Debbie Bull, will present her acrylic and oil paintings of local scenes (reception 6/8). Bonnie-Leigh Jones will share her unique oil and cold wax paintings in July (reception 7/13). Reedville painter Dave Hershiser will hang his classical style oil and acrylic paintings in August (reception 8/10). This September you can enjoy Page Pembroke Rudolph’s acrylic paintings (reception 10/14). All of the artwork will be for sale and available for purchase through Horn Harbor.
In 2024, Horn Harbor added more space to their gift shop space. The rooms adjacent to the gallery feature nautical gifts, Horn Harbor and Northern Neck logo clothing and hats, children’s toys, and original items by local craftspeople. This year, Horn Harbor has remodeled and moved the old downstairs bar into a new elevated room over the former boathouse. It has fantastic river views and a large outdoor covered seating area. The expansion includes docking space with a pier and a ramp up to the restaurant. The new bar should be open in April. The restaurant property also includes Blue Compass, a full-service Marina, which has a boat ramp, rental dock space, a beach, and a bathhouse. Non-ethanol gasoline is available for purchase.
The gallery is open during restaurant hours: Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 9 PM and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 AM to 9 PM. You can make reservations at Horn Harbor by calling 804-453-3351.
