Carnival Dancer Color Series

In 2013, I began a series of paintings of Carinval participants wearing their colorful parade costume and with them in the painting were things from the Virgin Islands that are the same color. Some of the portraits were of specific individuals and some were compilations of different dancers, but for both I used photos I have taken at the St Thomas and St John Parades the last 4 years. For the first time this year, I joined the Gypsy Troupe and danced in the Carnival Parade. My first painting in the series was called "Too Blue For You". Next I worked with photos of my favorite dancer from the Shaka Zulu Troupe. This painting is titled "Red Royality - Caribbean Queen." For 2014's Caribbean Colour show I painted "Red Hot Hot Hot." My portrait was of one of the adults from the Rising Stars Steel Pan group. The hurricane radar image behind him is hurricane Marilyn. This year, I painted Tropical Dreams for the Caribbean Colour green-themed exhibition.
